CHARLOTTE, NC — This is not a guide for tourists who just want the continental breakfast at the hotel. This is for the people looking for an historic inn that just happens to serve bacon and eggs, but also features a restaurant with an acclaimed chef.
The Daily Meal, a popular food website, has provided what it considers the best bed-and-breakfasts in America for 2018, and three venues in the mountains of North Carolina made the list.
As a bonus you can soak in an in-room whirlpool, dine on china, drink from crystal, book an in-room massage and more.
Here they are, along with The Daily Meal’s justification for distinguishing them:
Best bed and breakfasts in North Carolina:
“The Southern gem of Asheville has multiple bed-and-breakfasts, but Abbington Green Bed & Breakfast Inn and Spa is possibly the very best. Designed by the on-site architect of the Biltmore Estate, which is located just 10 minutes away, the 1908 inn has won multiple awards, including the Preservation Society’s Griffin Award for its excellence in historic preservation. All rooms have a king-size bed and each bathroom, except for one, has a whirlpool tub for you to relax in with luxury amenities before you enjoy a multi-course breakfast served on crystal and china. Services at their spa include massages, aromatherapy, facials, and more.”
Oak Hill on Love Lane Bed & Breakfast, Waynesville
“Waynesville’s Oak Hill on Love Lane Bed & Breakfast lies midway between the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the city of Asheville, the perfect place to stay when exploring western North Carolina. Built in 1898, but since renovated to keep up with the times, the bed-and-breakfast operates out of the Clyde H. Ray Sr. House, a historic home listed on the National Register of Historic Places and built by its namesake, a former long-time mayor of Waynesville. The three-course breakfast ends with their signature Meandering Muffins, served to you in a to-go bag; guests are encouraged to take photos of themselves enjoying the muffins later as they go about their day for entry into a monthly Facebook contest that could earn them a $50 gift card.”
Reynolds Mansion, Asheville
“Beautiful Asheville is great for a weekend getaway, and the Reynolds Mansion is the perfect spot to stay. One of fewer than six pre-Civil War brick houses still standing in western North Carolina, the Reynolds Mansion was built in 1847. Today, it’s a beautiful bed-and-breakfast, serving the finest Southern breakfast and offering a relaxing vacation that can even include in-room massage services.”
