The Charlotte Hornets hosted both NC State’s Torin Dorn and Tar Heels’ star Luke Maye for a pre-draft workout.
According to NewsObserver.com, “He [Torin Dorn] had a workout with the Charlotte Hornets, along with North Carolina star Luke Maye.” The two players had a private workout with the Queen City team. Both have already decided to return to school for their Senior campaigns.
Dorn and Maye tested the NBA waters this summer. They didn’t hire an agent but wanted to get feedback from teams before making a final decision. Luke also worked out for the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Atlanta Hawks.
Because they didn’t hire agents, both players were allowed to workout for teams but have the option to return to college. Torin and Luke have already announced that they are going to return to their respective school for the 2018-19 season.
Dorn averaged 13.9 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals for NC State this past year. His shooting splits were 53.1% FG/ 31.1% 3P/ 73.1% FT. He helped lead the Wolfpack to a 21-12 record which was good enough for third in the ACC. Torin was second on the team in scoring and second in rebounds.
The 23-year old will be one of NC State’s best players next season. If the 6’5 guard puts together a good year, he could be drafted next in 2019.
As for Maye, he averaged a double-double for UNC this past campaign. He put up 16.9 points per game, 10.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks. Luke also managed to shoot 48.6% from the field, 43.1% from three and 62.4% from the free throw line. The 6’8 forward ranked second on the Tar Heels in scoring, first in rebounds, first in blocks and third in three’s made.
The 21-year old has already had a legendary college career. He won an NCAA Championship in 2017 and knocked down a game-winner against Kentucky that secured a Final Four appearance. He was also named to the NCAA Tournament All-Region Team that year.
The Charlotte Hornets have brought in a number of prospects including Peyton Aldridge, Austin Ajukwa, Connor Burchfield, Chris Chiozza, Jon Davis, Marcanvis Hymon, Bakary Konate, Ray Ona Embo, Fletcher Magee, Admiral Schofield, Moritz Wagner, Andrien White and Lexus Williams for pre-draft workouts.
